As we have studied in class, English words can be divided into Syllables and there is always a syllable in a word that carries the stress.
This time we are looking at stressed syllable in two-syllable words. In these types of words the stress can be on the first syllable, (u-gly), or on the second (for-get).
We also studied that, generally speaking, adjectives (u-gly) and nouns (ta-ble) have stress on the first syllables. Verbs, on the contrary, have stess on the second syllable (for-get). Watch this video to practice word stress. Follow these four steps:
